The Mantra "Lack of Maintainence" will be the first "Smoke + Mirrors"
approach.
At some future point (Who am I kidding, vehicles out of warranty in
the Decade[s]) I envision the chain + sprocket being declared
"Maintainence Items" by the "Gnomes of Sindelfingen"
