The philosophy ot total-government hands-off-the-market is dumb here, as this is a strategic national security problem and not just a market problem. We need a massive program to get off the stuff, and we need to implement the same policies the Europeans have on our own auto fleet. This is going to lead to an economic meltdown and is going to be a permenant brake on economic expansion. 911 was a big wake-up call, and stealing oil from Iraq was not the answer.
