Last year, I test-drove a 5-speed manual transmission version of the car you're talking about. If I remember correctly, it was a european model (from Germany), it was called a 250TD, and it was non-turbo. I would have bought it if the seller wasn't asking $10K for it.

Anyway, I drove it for about 45 minutes in city, highway and gravel road conditions, and I found it to be fast enough. For normal driving, I wouldn't consider it to be slow at all (but I drive a 190D )
