I own a lo mi. (68,500 mi.) 1988 300 CE. Before I bought it (in 12/91, with 41k then), a PPI by an MB dealer revealed an oil leak at rear of block among other things. Seller & I made a price adjustment. So, I'm one owner that has a second head gasket (and at very lo miles ). At about 55k, the car began guzzling oil..1 qt. every 500 mi. or so. Valve seal job (approx $400.00). Problem solved. The rest has been pretty routine stuff. ( I'm no diyer. MB dealer scheduled maintenance)

If your into coupes, here's a pitch for the 300CE. All the positives of the 124/103(104) combo, with the advantage of greater classic beauty as well as being a reltively rare style. They only sold about 2,500 or so per year during the production run. Mine is garnet with a bone interior. A real head turner (imho)!!...and definitely more that a grocery getter!

I suggest that you find out owner history by doing carfax. Generally, the more owners & title transfers, the more likely maintenance has suffered or car has been abused. Good luck!

PS: I love my car!
