As far as the seat, It's probaby broken. I've seen several posts on the subject. Seems like the posts usually say that they a large people too.

to engage--that's normal. I have this spongy bulky shifter issue that seems to be off a few links when I shift. It's not crisp and simple anymore and my feel for it and the change in lighting of the gears upon shifting is out of whack.
