I didn't see the obvious addressed here -- the fuse. I hope it was checked.

If you must DIY on the air bag, I want to add that sliding your body across the seat fabric or carpet can develop static electricity, same as the spark you feel when getting out of the car. This static electricity - if applied in the proper location - can set off the airbag.
