Anyway I've got a 240D that won't shut down. All that vac lines look good and the car is running fine. Are there any common places to look first? Thanks.

Yep. I knocked a line loose when changing oil. The rubber hose came of the shutoff valve at the back of the injector pump. I also discover the PO had disconnected the central locking system and plugged the vacuum hose. I unplugged it and reconnected the central locking system. The locking system worked, but guess what! It wouldn't shut off. I disconnected and replugged and it shut off just fine. Therwe must be a leak in the locking system somewhere. So look for a disconnected hose or a leak.
