Smoke can be caused by the modulator valve on the trans.(been there done that)
Sorry can't help with the vacuum diagram.
If you have a specific question about a vacuum line maybe I can help.
I have a euro engine in my 84 500SEL and have had the same problem you are having trying to find the diagram, so I just hooked every thing up so the car runs good. It passes NC emissions and runs great so it must be close.
