CV Boots Torn
I was crawling under the rear of my car the other day, wanted to change the diff fluid. My right CV boot is in 2 pieces, the left is dry rotted but intact. I have no clicking noises coming from either side, so the joints are not destroyed...yet. I have seen replacment boots for sale for under $15.00, as opposed to new shafts for around $375.00. Now, how can I tell if I have Annular or Homokinetic shafts? Does it matter if I am replacing boots only? I have read the DIY page for rebuild of the joints, I would rather not undertake that job!! No, 12 ton press available at my house. Has anyone ever replaced boots only, and what is the process, will I need the monster press for a boot only replacment? Sorry, I come from the old school, rear wheel drive with solid axles. I have never done any type of CV work. As always all help is appreciated!!!
