New liners and pistons in the 80's, though...
Not much chromium in the liners, they are high nickel carbon steel as I remember, but who knows!
Burns me up that a diesel shop didn't bother to get the piston clearance right. I've seen this before -- too much clearance and the rings cock, rip the cylinder wall out terribly, and flare the ring lands out so you have to toss the pistons.
