Actually, a few yahoos couldn't resist initiating heated political threads, and while at it, raise the emotional level to open threats, insults, flames and disparaging PMs.
One particular incitor was averaging 30 posts/day!!! Can't be getting any work done at that rate!
Moderators posted warnings to tone things down, but it only seemed to "fuel the fire" even more.
There seemed to be no other recourse but to just pull the plug on "Open Discussion". A pity though, I liked the other, more candid threads.
Those of us who seriously were interested in all topics related to MB have remained.
The rest have ventured over to BenzWorld.org. I visit and post from time to time, but the same rioting goes on there...
