You have to remove the trim around the mirror. (there is a small key? in the back of the mirror adjustment handle it needs to be pushed down to remove the handle then remove the trim piece [triangle shaped])
Unscrew the lock switch (button at top of the door).
Unscrew the trim around the door lock mechanism (where it locks to car body).
Force out the trim around the inside lock acuator. (Which you pull to open the door.)
There is a rod (coming from the left side of the drivers side doors) that fits down into a plastic clip on the lock acuator, lift the rod up to disconnect it.
Unscrew bolt at the top of the inside door handle into the door.
Carefully... lift the door liner upward (pay attention to rubber trim which clips down at the top of the door liner) there are 10 or so plastic hooks pointed toward the ground that hold the liner to the door frame. (If one or more should break off have a wood-metal-plastic epoxy handy to remount them.

Or at least that’s how I do it on my 86' 300E.
