First of all, I would verify the converter is in fact plugged.
Secondly, if it is plugged, I would try to determine why, ( huge oil consumption, very rich running engine, badly misfiring ignition, etc. ).
Any of these conditions should be rectified, befor you even contemplate replacing the converter.
