The popping noise at the right front is very likely your control rod mount. This is a thick round bar that goes from the lower end of the spring (on the lower control arm) back to a ball-and-joint type mount on the lower firewall/frame of the car, inside the wheel well. The rubber boot on the control arm mount gets old and cracks, the joint starts getting dry and rusting - and wears out. Its getting really bad when you start noticing the front end of the car shifting to the right when you brake - coming up to a stop - and then jumps back straight when you take your foot off the brake.
The whine you describe is most likely coming from the differential. Very common and it will last a long long time even with that whine.
