I want to apologize for my misinformation re: the location of the sending unit. I was erroneously referring to the oil level sending unit. Well look!!, I'm getting old and senior moments and brain farts are becoming a way of life.

See what I mean.. Mr. Bill, you can try disconnecting the lead and cleaning the contact on the unit and the clip on the lead...but, if it ain't too corroded or dirty you may need to replace it. Good price here at Parts Shop.
