I can vouch for this.

Last week I turned half a bottle of cheap, foul whiskey into vodka using my brita. 10 filtrations yielded an alcohol with no taste or smell... though it maintained a slight yellowish brown color.

I will be buying $10 jugs of vodka and filtering from now on.
