I was able to get a second estimate from a MB only independant who comes well recommended. He quoted $1,700 to do the whole front end plus rear shocks. This sounds reasonable given the previous quote that was just a portion of the job.

For comparison, the local dealership gave me a ballpark figure of $2,200 on the phone.
