I'm replacing the springs & struts on my '87 300TD & need a coil spring compressor. ZDMak & Ebay sell the Mercedes type for around $260. Given that I'll never use it again I'm looking to buy a used one or rent one from someone or am happy to trade wine for the use of spring compressors.

Has anybody had any luck with the cheaper ($30 - $50) type spring compressors?
