A white Christmas in southern Texas- who would have thought it? I know that a lot of people down there was glad to see it, especially at this time of year. I heard that 12 inches of snow fell in Victoria, TX and even as much as 3 inches fell in Brownsville and even across the border in Mexico. I really thought that the video clip of the Galveston, TX snowman was amazing. There were a lady building a huge snowman right on the beach there. There were also reports of snow in New Orleans, LA today, but it did not stick. Last hour there was reports of a sleet/rain mix in northwestern Florida, but mostly a rain event, as the air moderated. On the flip side, it was in the lower 80s in Miami, FL today, but very heavy rains in Orlando, but was only in the 50s and 60s. I think it makes it even more unusual that parts of eastern and even northeastern Maine (parts of southern Canada included) did not have any snow on the ground at the same time Texas was getting the heavy snow. We did not/do not have any snow on the ground here in northeast Tennessee either. Not that unusual, because we only average about 18 inches of snow per year and we do not typically have a white Christmas. Most of our snow falls in February. We have still not received a measureable snow this year.
The Texas snow will be history soon. I think 60s forecasted tomorrow and mid 80s by midweek? Supposed to warm to near 70 here by the weekend. Actually, a nice warm-up for the central and eastern USA- while the west cools down .
