No cables on the 2000, it's an ESM (touchshift). There were some problems early on with this design regarding water contamination, so if the problem started when you may have either spilled liquid on to the shifter assembly, or washed the console, it may be contamnated and will either dry out and work fine, or they did come out with an ESM less affected by water contamination.
