You are asking great questions ... first the fuel lines are bled at the fuel distributor so you will need to take the air cleaner off. Yes, while the engine is running so only crack the retaining nut holding the line in so that the crud dribbles out. Do it several times. Have lots of rags handy and BE CAREFUL.

You should measure your fuel pressure. Pull the distributor cap and look for signs of arching. Did you use a Mercedes spec rotor and cap?
