I knew the exact solution to the guy's problem, I 've rewired those dashes 20 times, but he didn't want to listen. I may not be as good as Hatteras Guy, gsxr or Larry Bible or Pete Burton,or Diesel Dog but I am good, take my word for it...
(1) Let them fry thier own fish
(2) Go along with the science fiction, and tell them the fiber optics sytem is connected to the vacuum system by a fiber vacuum transducer
(3) Get corroborating posters to help..

The center console is done by fiber optics on the Early ACC types.....I know my W116 is and it uses the same Chrysler designed monstroscity.
All you can do is offer advice......
If they ignore it and follow their all knowing buddy who says its fine to drain the oil fill it up with kerosene and run it 100 miles to clean out crud.....
shortly into which it siezes the engine...all you can do is smuggly say I told you so.
