W126 speedo disassembly

I had my gauge cluster apart to paint the pointers. My 4 year old wanted to see what it was like to take the SDL beyond 140mph and we both found out the pointer breaks off at that speed. I got a replacement pointer and while pressing it on I broke the spindle.

Is it possible to transfer the odometer to another speedo base to retain the actual mileage? My guess is that it's difficult to reset the odometer digits but maybe I can transfer the assembly.

Thanks,
Sixto
