Near Bakersfield, California, there is a section of county roadway called "7th Standard Road.
Between Intersate 5 and Main Drain Road (near the California Aquaduct) there is a 4 mile section of beautiful, flat roadway with no curves or intersections. The landscape is desert and visibility is very good.
On this section I have buried the speedometer on my 1969 Dodge Charger R/T (150 mph indicated speed) and 120 indicated on the 1978 300SD.
I would have to calculate the top end performance of the 300SD with a 215/60/14 and 3.07:1 axle, but I think it would be respectable at higher speeds.
The 1979 Trans Am with 400 horsepower on tap has a 3.42:1 axle and 255/60/15 tires. It's capable of around 130 at a conservative 5800 rpm. The 440 Pontiac is capable of 6000.
Anyone have a fast W116???...Bert
