I hate it!

The SEM color I chose is much lighter than the dye that didn't work, by the way, the suppliers contact email address is defunct? Anyway, the dye color was darker and had a little blue in it, looked and matched the original and looked right with the new carpet, new wood finish on console etc, but the color of the SEM looks like __it, compared!
It took several attempts to eliminate the fish eyes using proper solvent, a paint adhesion promoter, I still had to take a chip brush and stroke the promoter back and forth until the fish eyes disappeared, then I sprayed two coats of the SEM. The adhesion promoter causes the SEM finish to have a little more gloss than would have been without using the adhesion promoter. So what I plan to do is let all parts fully cure and then scotch brite with fine, and apply two more coats of SEM to loose some of that gloss.
I have little doubt that the biggest problem here was silicone contamination, and that the dye I got was probably old! I noticed that they had relabeled the dye can with a more modern graphics label and the cap had heavy dust on top like it had sat for a long time, probably because the demand for 1980 MB blue/grey dye #238, has long past! I think the product (Classic Leather Dye) could have worked and would have pleased me far more than the SEM. Next time, I'll approach things much differently!
