Therm. housing-water pump housing connect

Hello!

Some of my terms may not be propler, but I only have a Haines book for reference!

I have an '85 300TD. Here is my tale of woe . . .

Replaced my water pump with no major drama, and also rpl'd the thermostat while I was "in there". Only took two leak-tests to get everything set.

Except for the approx. 2.5" diameter piece of hose that connects the thermostat housing to - I guess it's the water pump housing or something on the side of the block. With everything back together I can't see exactly and the book is useless for this.

So my question is, does anyone have any experience replacing this short - 2 inch or so? - piece of hose? Will I have to remove the thermostat housing in order to replace this? Or is there some way to convince it in place without this?

Any suggestions before I tear into it will be appreciated!!!

thx,
kma
