Could be moisture, try a hair dryer to warm up the key/lock area? Park in a warm area?

DON'T use WD-40, it's not lock friendly.

Thanks didn't know what activated/deactivated the alarm, so it is a possibility that the microswitch is bad also. I will try putting some heat to it, but parking somewhere warm will not be possible till spring.
