82 300D Idle Problems?

Hi. I'm the new and proud owner of an 82 300D with right at 200,000 miles. Im really excited, but the first morning after buying it I couldnt keep it running. The threads Ive read here about starting problems all seem to relate to the glow plugs. My problem feels more like an idle speed problem. If I keep just a bit of pressure on the accelerator, I can keep it running from a cold start (tampa, fl cold . . . 50 degrees) but as soon as I take the pressure off, it dies. It takes a good 10 minutes of this until its warm enough to idle on its own.

Should I still check the glow plugs, or does this sound like I should raise the idle speed?

Thanks very much. Im so glad to have found this forum. Ive learned a lot in just one day of looking around.

Roy
