I never thought I would see a marinebio thread on a mercedes forum but nonetheless very cool!

Some of those fish are keyed out but those are all benthic fish , far below the sunlight. That's why the fish exhibit gigantism and are all black or reddish or clear in some cases. I would agree that those fish are way too deep to be pushed to the surface by the tsunami as snopes.com states. But then again new fish are being found all the time because fishing equipment isn't designed to go down 2-3000 feet. There's a lot of cool stuff like that that we used to pull up in the channel between LA Harbor and Catalina Island. Our troll speed was much too slow (2-3kts.) to catch anything quite that big....like that cartilaginous fish/shark Chimaera that the guy in the slickers is holding. That one is huge!
