One of the things that makes this board so great (compared to all the other forums I frequent) is the overwhelming willingness of folks to share their knowledge so that we can all enjoy our MB's.
In order for folks to do that and to not waste bandwidth or time, we need as much information as possible to help understand the posted problem or question.
Anyway, glad you got to your problem.
Best way to thank the board is to share your newly gained knowledge with all... I've certainly never replaced a brake handle... is it mounted from the back? is it a straightforward repair when you remove the lower cover? Anything you can share on taking the lower cover off?
