Best advice I have for dealing with hazardous winter roads (not to be confused with ordinary winter roads) is to slow down.
It never ceases to amaze me how the average IQ of the 4 wheel drive crowd seems to take a nose dive when it gets slick out. 4 wheel drive won't stop you any faster.
