On an 88 model car the engine control unit KE has very little to do with the electrical system. It could give a false check engine light, but little else. If it were removed from the car it wouldn't effect the running of a warm engine. It has nothing to do with the SRS and is not likely to be the problem. I would look to the alternator/battery power circuits
