With regards to the question of pressures I have noticed little difference with setting my pop-off pressures high and low. Some nailing at low temps with low pressures is about the most noticeable difference.

The biggest surprise was that when I talked to the technicians at the diesel shops they had never heard of the holes in the pintles. They are not interested in such details, they just replace nozzles if they don't like what they see. Customers really need to get over the awe with which they seem to regard the diesel injection shops.

The other surprise was that cleaning the holes in the pintles lowers the pop pressure. I guess it is some kind of hydrodynamic thing that would take some specialization to understand.
