I have done the idler arm bushings now and it's still there.
I think it might be an engine/transmission mount: It is at its worst when the engine is cold and dies significantly when hot - it sounds and feels like you're running over a rumble strip (or kerb on a race track), and comes with only as little as a quarter turn of left lock. It pretty much gets worse the more you accelerate and the sharper you turn, but still only on left turns.
I now have new power steering pipes and a new o/s front wheel bearing.
