[Edit]
Forgot to mention I have a 1988 300e not a 1989 like the post states, but the symptoms are the same, the car stalls it becomes hard to steer off the road to restart the car and all of the lights on the HUD light up
I doubt the oil changes have anything to do with it. today I am taking the car to a new mechanic. Hopefully he can diagnose and fix the problem. I'll keep everyone updated.

The engine in your car, the M103, is identical to the engine in my daughter's car.

The car is hard to steer because there is no power assist to the power steering pump. Same thing with the brakes.

BTW, I don't really think you have a HUD (heads up display). Benz did not offer a HUD on that make, model and year car. In fact, I don't think that Benz has ever offered a HUD.

Good luck with your car and I like I wrote, I'll keep everyone posted.
