I was diagnosed with ADD as early as 3rd grade. I consistently refused help from any of the "Special-Ed" programs unless I felt I could use them to my advantage.
This continued through 8th grade. What I couldn't stand about the "Special-Ed" programs was that a certain assistant was assigned to a student as an in-class aid. Although they were generally nice, I felt my dignity being undermined and my intelligence being insulted by their smothering tendencies and insinuating personalities.
