Back in the early 90;s a good friend owned an 83 190E , to me it was the coolest car. The only thing that went on it was the fuel pump relay, a new aftermarket relay was purchased for 40GBP from Euro Car Parts in north London. It displayed the exact same symptioms that you mentioned.
