Intermitant problems may point to cracks in the circuit board of the fuel relay. Pull it out, take off the top cover and examine the back of the circuit board with a magnifying glass. You may discover circular cracks around a pin or pins of the components soldered to the board... usually the heavier components of the board... eg the points and electro magnets. If so... a drop a solder will cure the problem.

But it does sound more like a OVP/idle control problem
