Post away at the new one. I sort of thought the old one was getting too long also, but I would have probably made an exception for that particular thread and locked it so it could still be viewed, while starting a new one.

Once a thread gets to be 40 pages long, how often does anyone look at pages 4-36? You can't go to the middle of the thread. You must start at either the beginning or the end and work either rearward or forward, respectively. As a practical matter, threads of this length are not all that valuable unless you've got a couple of hours on your hands.
