i can't imagine more power than the 7.62x54 bullets i am using. anything more than that is probably too much for me. after about 30 rounds my shoulder is all bruised up. call me a pussy, or maybe i just need a butt pad? its just the metal butt plate vs my shoulder. i got the mosin for pretty cheap so i will stick a scope and see how acurate it is.
I handeled a Walther P99 and its my favorite so far (for hand guns). fits so nice in my hand.
i was gonna get a Ruger 10/22 today cause i didn't realize how cheap the ammo is. 8 bucks for 500 rounds!! i always wanted one with a bullpup stock. but the whole thing would come out to around $280, so i thought an SKS would be cheaper/better. i think over time the ammo cost would make the 10/22 a cheaper fun.
so at walmart today it was either a ruger 10/22 or a mossberg 500 12 ga. i end up not buying either one

I have a 10/22 that I stuck a cheap-ass Chicom scope on and use it for squirrel hunting. Kiss if death at 50 - 75 yards. In the olden days I could did that with a Williams peep sight on my old .22 Savage single shot. When I had eyes. The 10/22 is sweet, but the stock length is a bit short for a man, IMO. What I'd really like is an old Remington Speedmaster. My hunting partner had one when we were kids and that thing was stone reliable and death on a fast-moving squirrel. It had a stock for a man-sized person, too.
