They put brand new upper control arms on, what, are they lazy?

I will be replacing many front end parts on my 450SL soon. The upper control arms have riveted on, upper ball joints, not unusual, and I plan to cut them off to install new upper ball joints.

I'm just wondering, was the only reason for replacing the upper control arms was because new they come with riveted on ball joints? Because yes, I knoticed while pricing that lower control arms were $500 + dollars each, uppers weren't far behind. My opinion, my thought, was what a rip!

All parts you mentioned I have priced, and with exception to both upper, and lower control arms, price for parts was under $300 I think, I'll check that, but it wasn't outragious.

Boy, I'm glad I have the time to do my own work!
