On my '84 300D, the instrument lights and the lights for the climate control and window switches are not working. I replaced the old rheostat (has a broken wire) with a new one, but still no lights. Once in a while the lights will suddenly come on, but not consistently at all.

The archives seem to point toward rheostat and fuse issues, but I have ruled these out. Any ideas for where to look next? Thanks
