To me having the dealership say it's bad is not one of the signs that it's bad. Too many people there trying to sell things, or that just don't know what they're doing. The sign that it's bad is the check engine light coming on, repeatedly, with accompanying fault code, or the engine running poorly with the fault code, or both.
