I have a 94 E320, 160K and had the same problem. I replaced the Mass Air-flow sensor ($400) and it did not fix the problem. A shop found a plugged, 50% restricted, EGR valve. I apparently made a mistake of using a fuel injector, gas additive cleaner, that broke loose a lot of carbon (?).
