You don't need to repack just to do a brake job on this car (as I'm sure you've noticed). May be the original grease in there.

Channel locks or a prybar underneath the lip, don't hammer them side to side to get them out.

To install, use a blunt driver on the lip around the bottom of the bell, resist the temptation to tap on the end -- this will cause them to crush, collapsing the mouth, and it will not stay in!
