Any car with a manual trans can be towed without much of a problem. Just avoid AWD. (not a problem if you are looking at old MB's)
An auto trans on the other hand will burn up in short order, you will need to have the drive wheels off the ground to tow an auto car.
My manual says to flatbed them and I would if I ever needed to.
