What model do you have? Depending on which one there are a number of things that could get wet and cause problems: distributor cap if you have one, the coil wire or coil itself, the entry holes for the plug wires into the cap, etc.
It sounds like wet spark plugs were only part of your problem. Without knowing what you have, in general what has to be done is open the various ignition components one by one and look for moisture signs, then dry them. Your auto parts store will have a spray that's used to dry moisture. Alternately you COULD take a hair dryer and blow it on the outside of each ignition component awhile, kind of hit or miss but better than nothing.
