This thread reminds me of the time these two guys on a morning talk show were talking about this terrible (computer type) virus epidemic being spread from car to car via the gas pumps. The style of the program was similar to the famous Orson Wells' "War of the Worlds". They said this virus started slowly attacking the electricals on the infected car, mysteriously setting off the check engine light and other electrical gremlins.

A lot of people called in to the radio program, playing along, and feeding credibility to this charade. One guy even called in and said he worked for Chrysler in fuel systems engineering and the department was on alert working on a solution to this problem.

The topper was when some female bimbo called, saying she was experiencing just such a problem with her Honda and that her mechanic was not being helpful to her situation. She was obviously alarmed to the 'epidemic'. One of the more memorable programs I listened to in Detroit for a long time!
