The combination of sugar or sugars and caffeine is pretty good fix. The heart responds to sugar seconds after ingestion, and fades almost as quickly while caffeine hits the system a little slower but lingers. If you get a heart rate monitor, strap it on just after you get outtta bed and monitor your pulse while you’re drinking coke, or even a non caffeinated but sugar rich drink you can observe the quick increase of your heart rate shortly after a drink. Smoking a cig is even more dramatic. Tools which provide feedback about what’s happening can go a long way to help eliminate an over use of something.
