Dr. Diesel - I've got the 38 pin connector in my '99 E300 as well as the OBDII connector under the dash. I have a code reader for the under dash connector, but found lots of codes when someone read the 38 pin connector for me. My OBDII code reader showed none of those codes. Is there a reasonable DIY reader for the 38 pin connector?

I have a Snap-on scanner with the MB software and cables to diagnose systems through the 38pin data link. That gives you access to all vehicle controllers and data. The FED required OBDII connector in the underdash only provides the FED madated OBD PO codes. My Scanner was $4000. The MB SDS machine I use at work can be purchased but, runs $13,000 with software and license keys. My Snap-on unit only will talk to major units like Engine, Trans, EIS, ABS, and Shifter. The MB computer talks to all control units on the CAN bus like Radio, Doors, Seats, ect....

I have been assured several times by the vendor that this connector does exist on this model and is hidden near the coolant bottle or fuse box. Could anyone who has this particular model help me find this 38 pin connector thanks.

I think you got Scammed. The 1999 S320 was the last year S class to use a 38 pin connector. The 2000+ w220 S class connects under the dash and is hardwired to the igniton switch for diagnostics using the OBD style 16 pin connector. Sorry.
